Lightning Emergencies

Lightning is both random and unpredictable. An average of 20,000,000 lightning strikes occur every year in the United States.

Lightning strikes can kill or seriously injure people. Lightning can travel through a tree, across water or even through the ground. Current can also travel through wiring and plumbing into buildings.

Typical injuries from a lightning strike include cardiac arrest, neurologic injuries, blunt trauma and superficial burns.

In the event of a lightning storm all employees working outdoors shall report inside until the storm has concluded. Avoid contact with wiring and plumbing. The weather report will be reviewed at this time and supervisors will make a decision on what course of action to take.
